With some of us facing housing insecurity and all of us wanting to help, CUCC has pulled together a handy resource.  One side describes the Coordinated Entry system which connects people who are homeless or at risk of homelessnesses with local housing resources.  In Wake County, one goes first to a Coordinated Entry Service Center where they assess all of your needs and help you put together the resources to help you move forward  The other page suggests how you can help, including some opportunities that CUCC is doing together.  The resource was distributed during worship on November 16.

Print a copy and keep it in your car or winter jacket pocket; you never know when it will come in handy.

How to help

What else is CUCC doing to assist with housing?

The flyer lists things we can do now.  In 2026 we will have additional opportunities to assist those who are housing insecure.  Watch the newsletter for opportunities to get involved.

  • Attend congregational meetings.  CUCC partners with Community Church Low Income Housing Corporation which owns and operates the house and the apartment six-plex adjacent to our property.  At some congregational meetings CCLIHC seeks our advice on decisions they are making.   If you are interested in assisting with their work, talk to CCLIHC Board Chair Mike Cline.
  • Bring your energy to a Habitat for Humanity of Wake County build day.  Community Outreach Ministry schedules workdays once or twice a year to allow CUCCers to help build an affordable home.  Talk to Community Outreach Ministry chair Charles Coble if you’d like to help organize the next workday.  Read about the recent November 8 build here.
  • Help cook or serve a meal at a local shelter for women.  Three times each year CUCC partners with Holy Trinity Lutheran Church to cook and serve a meal to the 90 women staying at the Helen Wright Center for Women. Talk to Community Outreach Ministry chair Charles Coble if you would like to cook some of the food and/or help serve.
  • Bring unopened, wrapped plastic utensils to the box under the hallway coat rack.  While it is preferable to request that your food orders not provide plastic utensils, if you get them anyway, bring them to CUCC and we will deliver them to the Helen Wright Center for Women where they are the sanitary way for the shelter to serve food.  If you have questions about the utensils, ask Jane Smith who drops them off.
