NewsAssistive Technology Expo will be held online or at the McKimmon Center on October 3. Registration is required for this free event. A2A: Learning Together

The conveners of the A2A book discussion invite you to explore the Assistive Technology Expo on October 3.  You may attend online or at the McKimmon Center; the Expo is open from 8:45AM until 5:00PM.  Registration is required for this free event.

Why would I want to attend?

Whether you are a person with a disability, a family member, or someone who wants to learn more, the Expo is an opportunity to see up-to-date assistive devices that support the day-to-day activities people with disabilities.  There is a schedule of presentations and a vendor hall where you can see the technology and talk to representatives.  A few of the presentations are focused on people who are aging and have changing abilities.  Because at CUCC we are learning how to be more fully inclusive of people with various disabilities, seeing the tools available to them might broaden our imagination about what is possible and help us prepare more effectively.

What is the Expo offering?

“A vendor hall, with more than 45 vendors, will be featured as well as numerous speakers and break-out sessions that include continuing education credits…. The vendors at this year’s AT Expo include companies like LUCI, which specializes in adding smart technology to power wheelchairs to aid in stability, security and connectivity. Control Bionics will be demonstrating its suite of dedicated speech generating devices for people living with complex communication needs. OrCam’s MyEye devices aid those with visual impairments by making reading material accessible. Apple representatives will be onsite in a separate room called the Apple Accessibility Playground where they will provide technical assistance and information on the accessibility features incorporated into Apple products.”
