The Peace Booth is one of the oldest Booths at the North Carolina State Fair as it is over seventy-five years old. Those who participate in the staffing of the booth engage fair goers in harmonious discussions about peace and peace making. Along with this, people are encouraged to sign petitions related to peace. Over the many years of the Peace Booth such petitions related to voter rights, nuclear freeze and the rights of veterans have been signed. These petitions are sent to government officials with the hopes that laws for peace and justice will be passed.

The peace booth also includes statements of peace from most faith organizations, activities for both children and adults and a variety of handouts to educate fair goers about issues of peace.

Community UCC has had a long history of being a part of the peace booth. However, the booth is facing a critical shortage of groups and workers for the effort this year. As the facilitator for the peace booth steering committee, I’m asking for members and non-members of CUCC to participate in staffing the booth. We typically work the booth the last Thursday of the fair. This year that date is October 22nd. However, people can work on other days as needed. There will be two orientations where people will be trained to staff the booth. The first orientation will be on Saturday, October 10th at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2723 Clark Avenue in Raleigh. The second training is at CUCC on October 11th. Both orientations are from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.

If you wish to participate in the work of the Peace Booth please contact CUCC’s Robert Parrish.
