Good Friday Pilgrimage for Peace and Justice
April 7 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
If you’re looking for a meaningful way to experience Good Friday, consider joining the annual Pilgrimage for Peace & Justice on Friday, April 7, for a justice “Stations of the Cross.” You can either participate in all of the stations, or join others from CUCC who plan to arrive at about 11 for the final stations around the Capitol. For more information, contact Merrilee Jacobson (919-274-4539).
Details
The pilgrimage begins at 9 a.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Gardens, 1215 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Walkers will stop to remember those struggling against injustice and to pray at 14 locations, connecting those to moments in the journey of Jesus from trial to crucifixion. (Read more about a traditional Stations of the Cross). The stops are at the Women’s Prison (advocating to end mass incarceration and free all mothers), Central Prison (abolish the death penalty), the Women’s Center (end homelessness, provide affordable housing), Wake Country Jail (end cash bond, stop racist jail/prison industrial complex), NC Justice Center (welcome immigrants, support workers’ right to organize, Black Lives Matter) and, finally, the State Capitol (end all wars, feed the hungry, liberty to the captives, health care for all, abolish ICE, stop voter suppression).
You may choose to walk the entire pilgrimage (from 9 to about 12:30 or 1), or join Merrilee and others from CUCC at about 11 at the Capitol for the final few stations.
This community event is recommended to you by CUCC’s Do Justice Ministry.
