Sunday Morning Bible Study – Jeremiah
October 3, 2021 @ 9:30 am - 10:15 am
The prophecies of Jeremiah, recorded in the Hebrew scriptures, span the period from the faithfully obedient reign of Judean king Josiah to the destruction of capital city Jerusalem and the forced deportations of the Judean population to Babylon (late 600s bce). What do those prophetic messages in a time of political, religious, and social upheaval have to say to us today?
Bring your questions and insights to this small and inquisitive group of Bible students. Anyone, anywhere is welcome if you come with an open mind and respect for each person’s insights.
Reading plan
September 5: Chapters 1–25 (The earliest and main core of Jeremiah’s message)
September 12: Chapters 26–29 (Biographic material and interaction with other prophets)
September 19: Chapters 30–33 (God’s promise of restoration including Jeremiah’s “new covenant” which is interpreted differently in Judaism than it is in Christianity)
September 26: Chapters 34–45 (Mostly interaction with Zedekiah and the fall of Jerusalem) and Chapters 46–51 (Divine punishment to the nations surrounding Israel)
October 3: Chapter 52 (Appendix that retells 2 Kings) and summary.
About the Sunday Morning Bible Study
Open to the community, this Bible study chooses a book to discuss in-depth, often pairing it with an accessible work by a Biblical scholar. This is a place to ask questions, share insights, and learn from one another.
We are currently meeting together simultaneously online (on Zoom) and on campus (in Pilgrim House). For the Zoom information, check the Saturday Zoom email or contact Bill Lamb, group convener, at william.e.lamb@gmail.com.
