Newshouse key in door lock

CUCC friends,

Wake County created the Affordable Housing Preservation Fund by combining private and public funds to support affordable multifamily housing preservation. Homeownership is one of the best ways to create wealth and leads to more stability for families. The Board of Commissioners should use a similar strategy to create an Affordable Housing Acquisition Fund to preserve and protect affordable homeownership opportunities. One of the ways these funds could be used is to buy endangered mobile home communities to keep them from being redeveloped into homes, apartments or other non-residential uses.

I am a Habitat Wake Advocacy Ambassador and have committed to getting 50 signatures in April, May and June on a letter to the County Commissioners asking them to create a Wake County Affordable Housing Acquisition Fund, and I need your help. Please support the creation of this fund by signing the letter to the County Commissioners and by asking 5 other Wake County residents to also sign. You can read the letter by going to this link. You can sign in person this month at church during fellowship, or online using the link and filling in your information. If you sign on line, please email me at as I am keeping a talley of signers to see how we do on the goal. Also, please ask the 5 others that you get to sign to email me as well. I’ll be making some small flyers that you can give to people with the link on them.

Let’s help preserve and protect affordable homeownership in Wake County.

Thanks, Jim Smith
