On January 13, 7:00-8:15pm, join an informative webinar that equips people of faith with the tools, confidence and spiritual grounding needed to connect with elected representatives on caring for creation and advocating for a fair and affordable energy system. The webinar is sponsored by Interfaith Creation Care of the Triangle and co-sponsored by the NC Council of Churches Eco-justice Connection (NCCC).
Rev. Susannah Tuttle, Director of the NCCC Eco-Justice Connection, will present this practical training. She received a Masters of Divinity degree with an emphasis on ecological ethics from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA and joined the staff of the NCCC in 2011.
Whether you are new to advocacy or already engaged, this training will strengthen your ability to speak up for policies that protect the earth. It is a faith-rooted approach advocating for climate issues and environmental justice. We hope it will inspire you to join a small group that will build relationships with your representatives in the coming year!
Susannah will cover:
- The North Carolina General Assembly – Civics 101 – “Who holds the Power”
- The structure of the NC Utilities Commission
The Office of the Governor and the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)
She will help us understand the role of these groups and why we might want to learn to work with them.
Then she’ll show us:
- How to schedule meetings with elected officials
- How to build relationships with decision makers
- Opportunities to design “What I Love” campaigns for faith communities
