Justice Coffee is excited to report that The Honorable Tim Longest of the North Carolina House of Representatives will join Justice Coffee for conversation.
Tuesday, October 28
8:30 – 9:30 am at
Union Special Bread Gateway Plaza, 2409 Crabtree Blvd #102, Raleigh, NC 27604
We have asked Mr. Longest to talk with us about the “crime bill,” also known as Iryna’s Law, which was signed into law on October 3. Given CUCC’s long work on reform of the bail bond system, we are curious about Representative Longest’s vote for the bill (read HB 307 here). The bill includes substantial changes to how pretrial release is determined by the courts and to the implementation of capital punishment. Representative Longest serves NC District 34 (see map here) where many CUCC members live.
While our conversation with Mr. Longest will be about legislation, we also remember that people’s lives are impacted by law. Especially we remember in our prayers the family and friends of Iryna Zarutska after whom this bill was named and all those harmed by our current bail bond system.
Union Special Bread is kind enough to host our weekly Justice Coffee. If you attend, we hope you support them by buying a cup of coffee and one of their delicious baked treats (there is always at least one vegan option).
If you have any questions about the event, please feel free to email Mike Soboeiro (email in Breeze or via office.cucc@gmail.com). Please plan to join us for this special occasion on October 28!
