On Saturday, February 1, in CUCC’s neighborhood, members of CUCC’s Racial Justice Project attended the unveiling of the NC Civil Rights Trail marker at the birthplace of Willis Graves, Jr. The birthplace is in the historic Oberlin Village neighborhood near CUCC.
Check out the NC Civil Rights Trail and learn about attorney Graves’ precedent-setting work on civil rights and housing law. You can read more about Mr. Graves here. Then, plan to visit the site and stop to read the historical signs in front of the the adjacent Hall home (another historic Oberlin Village home and now Preservation North Carolina offices). There are other locations on the NC Civil Rights Trail nearby to visit.
If you would like to be informed of opportunities to join others from CUCC at local events to learn about African American history, contact Roger Manus or Jim Smith, co-chairs of CUCC’s Racial Justice Project, a committee of our Do Justice ministry. Their contact information is in Breeze or available at office.cucc@gmail.com.
