Accessible to AllNewsThe 9 participants in the American Red Cross CPR/AED course celebrate with the practice babies after completing their course.

An Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) has been installed at Community UCC. The AED case is located in the hallway next to the water fountains. The case is alarmed and the alarm goes off when the door is opened and shuts off when the door is closed.

Hopefully, we will never have to use it, but if a cardiac arrest occurs in or near the church, the presence of a defibrillator increases the chances of survival significantly. Nine individuals (see photo) completed the American Red Cross CPR/AED course and are now certified to use the device and perform Basic Life Support. There are also other church members who are certified through their work or through other organizations. In total, approximately 15 people are trained and certified to help someone experiencing a cardiac arrest.

Additionally, the church’s first aid kit has been updated to include a blood pressure cuff, and Narcan which can reverse an acute opioid intoxication. The first aid kit will be kept in the Ushers Closet in the back of the sanctuary.

Thank you to the Council for arranging for this life saving equipment and training.  If you have questions about this project, speak with Moderator Mike Soboeiro (contact info in Breeze or via office.cucc@gmail.com).
