Whoever is available shows up on first Mondays at Transfer Co. Food Hall to share stories and posit possibilities at Life & Faith. Anyone can bring a question about a way in which your life and faith are rubbing up against each other. If no one has a question, Jane Smith prepares a back up question for our conversation. We are grateful to Whitney Adams who will be our timekeeper and greeter on November 4 while Jane is setting up her polling place for Tuesday’s election. Friends are welcome.
Back up question for November 4
On Sunday, we read together in worship these words from the prophet Isaiah (NRSV Isaiah 25:6-8a).
On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples
a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines,
of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear.
And God will destroy on this mountain
the shroud that is cast over all peoples,
the sheet that is spread over all nations;
God will swallow up death forever.
In our daily lives, where are each of us living as if still covered by a shroud, as if there isn’t a rich feast for each of us and all of us? Where are we timid or afraid or doubting the miracle of God’s transforming love in us and in those around us? How would what we bring to relationships with specific relatives, with co-workers and co-volunteers, with neighbors change if we reimagined the friction points knowing that God has “swallow[ed] up death forever?” How would you like others at Life & Faith to support you as you walk boldly into that abundant world and start relating differently?
Logistics
We will meet at Transfer Co Food Hall. Arrive at 6:30PM if you want to buy dinner or a libation from the food court; conversation is from 7-8PM. Look for the Life & Faith red comma on our table. If the weather is nice, we’ll meet on the patio in the back; if rainy or below 65, we’ll meet in the sunken area off the center of the main floor. Transfer Co. has its own (free) well-lit parking lot, with accessible parking spaces in the driveway off Davie Street and a lot behind the building. There are several food stalls open offering a variety of foods, including vegan and vegetarian. There is a (free) water fountain near the rest rooms. The sunken area can be accessed by a gentle ramp.
Life & Faith has two guidelines: What is said at Life & Faith stays at Life & Faith. We tip generously.
