The Monday Lunch Group will begin several weeks discussing Kate Bowler’s Everything Happens for a Reason: And Other Lies I’ve Loved.  Conversation will be led by Rev. Robert Parrish.

Robert writes: “For the next month, or so, I will facilitate a discussion on the book EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON AND OTHER LIES I’VE LOVED. This book is a best seller by Duke Divinity Professor Kate Bowler. In it she chronicles her experience with stage four cancer with the backdrop of the prosperity gospel. Throughout our study together you will have the opportunity to share aspects of your journeys when it comes to pain or suffering. You can also disclose where you feel God was or was not on such journeys with you. Along with the above, you might also share where you found hope and love. To enhance our understanding of the book there will be scripture readings from the book of Job or Psalms during our devotional period.”

The group will be watching videos from Bowler’s series of the same name, and discussing a couple of chapters each week.

If you enjoy exploring books (fiction and nonfiction), poetry, movies, music and more, consider becoming part of Monday Lunch Group.  They meet from noon to 1:30 every Monday on Zoom.  Meetings begin with a time of prayer (including intercessory prayer for those on CUCC’s Community Prayers list) and move into discussion of the topic of the week (or month).

The Zoom link is in the Saturday Zoom email, or can be obtained from the office.
