A Letter from the Stewardship Ministry
Dear CUCC Family,
Community United Church of Christ has a mission.
That mission is to carry out God’s command to love one another and to show that love in our actions and hospitality. There are several ways we endeavor to carry out this mission at Community UCC.
We show God’s love through worship and education. Learning, listening, contemplating, discussing, and perhaps debating about God’s word and what it means for us. Using education and worship to nurture spiritual growth in each and everyone, and understand how God would have us treat our friends, neighbors, and enemies. We work to teach our children and youth God’s word, in our Sunday school, and youth activities.
We promote God’s love in our church community through fellowship events like potlucks and parties, poetry and art workshops, and Lunch with Friends. These are the times we get to know each other, and learn how we can help each other. We strive to be a church that is welcoming to everyone (everyone!) and by working to make our facilities accessible to all.
We also show God’s love by praying for each other, by helping each other through life’s challenges – when a family member is sick, or someone needs a ride to a doctor. We do this by celebrating with each other – the birth of a child or grandchild, a marriage, or a graduation. We also strive to show God’s love in the greater Raleigh community, through our work supporting Urban Ministries, Bail Bond Reform, Meals on Wheels, L’Arche NC, Habitat for Humanity, Bread for the World, and many more.
To successfully carry out the mission of CUCC, we need the talents and hard work of everyone. We also need financial resources to pay our staff, to maintain our building and to support our ministries, and community partner organizations. Every year, the Church Council builds and approves a budget focused on carrying out the mission of CUCC for the following year. We are currently working on a draft budget for 2027. The congregation will approve that budget early in 2027.
How do you participate in the mission of Community UCC? You can support the church through the use of your time and talents, and through a financial pledge.
If you are looking for new ways to participate in the CUCC mission, we use the Time and Talents Survey to connect people who have interests with a ministry that needs their skills. You can learn more about CUCC’s Ministries & Taskforces and Small Groups here.
The largest source of financial resources for CUCC are the donations that come from pledges. In order to successfully carry out our mission for the coming year, we need to have an idea of what financial resources CUCC will have. We ask everyone to consider making a financial pledge. Pledges help us plan for the future.
If you’re new to CUCC or haven’t pledged before, we invite you to make a financial commitment based on what your circumstances allow. If you’ve pledged for 2026, we thank you—and ask you to prayerfully consider increasing your pledge to meet the needs of 2027.
We are deeply grateful for all you’ve given—and all you continue to give. If you have questions about the church’s budget, please reach out to Tim Jensen, or Phil Kaveler. Contact information is found in Breeze.
Please return your pledge card by Sunday, October 25 or make your pledge online at communityucc.org/pledge-2027
Thank you,
CUCC Stewardship
