NewsA quote from Psalm 72: "Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to a king's son. May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice. May the mountains yield prosperity for the people, and the hills, in righteousness. May he defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the needy, and crush the oppressor." Pray for those with power over us? Join the conversation at Life & Faith, January 2 at 6:30PM at Transfer Co. Food Hall

UPDATE:  Jane has a cold that she doesn’t want to pass along, so we are skipping our January 2 gathering.  We’ll gather again on February 6 at Transfer Co. Food Hall.  Watch upcoming editions of the newsletter for our next “back up topic.”

At Life & Faith we share questions, swap ideas, tell stories, and enjoy good company.  This monthly gathering is open to anyone who wants to come with a spirit of honesty and compassion.  We meet at Transfer Co. Food Hall (directions and vendor menus).  Come at 6:30 PM if you want to buy your dinner or a beverage; conversation begins at 7:00 and we head home at 8:00.  Look for the red Life & Faith comma at our table.  With winter weather upon us, we will meet inside; there is a sunken area in the center of the ground floor which can be accessed by a ramp.  At Life & Faith we have two guidelines:  Tip generously.  What is said at Life & Faith stays there.

Anyone can bring a “life & faith colliding” question, but if no one does, Jane Smith prepares a back up.

January 2 back up question

The psalmist leads the congregation in praying for the king – yes, to his health and prosperity, but also that he might lead in God’s way.  What might change (or might not) if we prayed regularly, individually and as a community, for those with power over us?  Bosses, landlords, insurance companies, doctors, the Supreme Court… what would you pray for someone who is exercising power over you this January?  What would you ask us (your church) to pray along with you?  If you have prayed for someone with power over you, what happened?  If someone over whom you hold power prayed for you, what happened?  What prayers are consistent with God’s way and what might be out-of-bounds?
