Now it’s time for us to commit for the summer season to enable the farmers to purchase seeds, etc, to get the summer crops going.
Are you intrigued? The CSA has been very cool so far!
If you want to purchase a share or ½ share contact Gary Smith by April 23 (smithgk@mindspring.com).
Here are some details:
- Each full share costs $250 and will be designed for four people (half shares for two people), with each weekly delivery providing a serving of veggies for each person for approximately 6 meals.
- The spring season is running for eight weekly deliveries, and we plan that the summer season will be the same.
- The farmers hope to offer a variety of weekly summer vegetables based on weather, crop maturity, invasion from pests, etc. They expect to tell us about 4 days prior to delivery what we will receive that week.
Why Is Community UCC part of the Farm to Church CSA?
Farmers of color in the United States endure systemic racism within the food system that causes significant social, economic, and political harm resulting in higher rates of debt and fewer farmers of color able to keep their farms.
To help, we have worked with RAFI-USA to start the Farm to Church CSA to create new opportunities and long-term relationships for North Carolina farmers of color.
Eight Wake county churches and fourteen CUCC families have purchased a total of 80 shares for the spring season. We expect our first spring delivery in the next couple weeks!!
