Following the service on June 7, please stop by the Vaughan Fellowship Hall for food, fellowship . . . and advocacy.  Postcards addressed to Senators Tillis and Budd,  U.S. Representative Deborah Ross and Senatorial candidates Roy Cooper and Michael Whatley will be available for you to sign and personalize. The postcards, sent on behalf of Bread for the World, encourage our elected officials to fund U.S. and international food programs.  Our children will be able to share their thoughts on hunger through an art project.  Postcard-signing opportunities will also be available in the VFH on June 14 and June 21.  Members of our online congregation can participate via email  here.  Please note your connection to Community UCC in the labeled web link so that we can keep track of our total impact.  You may also download and mail these letters.  If you’re interested in learning more about Bread for the World’s hunger advocacy, or wish to sign up for their periodic legislative alerts, visit Bread for the World.

NOTE for online participants: Emails and pre-printed letters sent to our elected representatives are more effective if personalized.  Here are some sample phrases that you can add to your message – or come up with one of your own!

“For I was hungry, and you gave me food” (Matthew 25:35)

“1 in 8 Americans face hunger—Congress must act now!”

“No child should go to bed hungry—support policies that feed families.”

“Ending hunger boosts the economy—invest in nutrition programs.”

“Feed the hungry—live out our values in policy.”

“Hunger is a policy choice. Choose wisely.”

“Your vote can fill this plate.”

“No child should depend on luck for their next meal.”
