Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people? (Jeremiah 8:22)
Brothers and Sisters of the Southern Conference,
Grace! Mercy! And Peace be with you from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank God for all of you.
This is your Official Call Letter inviting you to attend and participate in the Southern Conference’s 57th Annual Gathering, September 24, 2022. Due to the restrictions that the new COVID variant has imposed upon our society, we will be once again having a virtual gathering where we will rely on technology completely. It will begin with opening worship at 10:00 am and conclude at 3:30 pm.
This year, I am really excited about our modified, one day Annual Gathering. Trauma impacts all of us! Whether it’s a natural disaster, human-caused disaster, environmental or economic disaster, or the effects of the COVID pandemic—each one has been impacted by trauma. We’ve been cut off from our communities, and from the connections where we can find hope, help and healing without judgment. Trauma has impacted our churches, and our communities. Trauma Ministry is the next mission field for our churches. With this in mind, our theme will be “Becoming a Community of Hope & Healing: A Path toward Trauma-Informed & Resilience Building Ministry.” The guest speaker will be The Rt. Rev. Justin Meier, PhD, Bishop, Diocese of the Emmaus Way, Anglican Free Communion International.
This is an abbreviated Annual Meeting; the registration fee is only $25. Everyone who plans to attend must register to get into the meeting. This year no paper registrations will be sent. Register here.
We look forward to your participation in our collective experience of God doing a new thing among us and with us. All meeting materials will be posted to soc-ucc.org. Please continue to refer to our website and our e-News for further details.
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Edward Davis (D.Min.), Conference Minister
Southern Conference United Church of Christ
